# Are Skyborne 'High Elves'? Players push back on the label

**Community · unconfirmed** · drama · published 2026-10-09

A busy forum thread objects to promotional material calling the Skyborne "High Elves", arguing the term already means something specific in Warcraft lore. Replies split between people who see a retcon and people who say the label is just shorthand. This is community discussion; Blizzard has described Skyborne as a new elf race of their own.
